In December Robert Majewski held recording session in Warsaw Polish Radio studio. Nothing extraordinary untill you look closer at lineup where you can find beside above mentioned trumpeter following musicians: Bobo Stenson (piano), Palle Danielsson (double bass) and Joey Baron (drums). Wow! Correct if I am wrong but it seems to me as planetary first division of mainstream jazz players. It sounds as we may expect melodic, ballad and very beautiful music. The premiere of this album is planned for 9th February. Time to start countdown to this date...
In meantime check legendary interpretation of "Ballad For Bernt" by Krzysztof Komeda whose interpretion shall appear on this album as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpSP_a5XdNQ
Today (2 July, 2011) I have found a copy of the CD "Robert Majewski plays Komeda" on a market stall of a small town in the UK. I have been listening to jazz for 53 years but only occasionally do I hear something which has an overwhelming, visceral effect on me. This CD, particularly the track "Po Katastrofie", has such an affect. The CD is certainly the best Komeda interpretation I have heard. D Meiklejohn
OdpowiedzUsuńThank you very much for your feedback! Robert Majewski's interpretations of Komeda music are especially gripping and like-no-other. "Po katastrofie" evokes bluesy, even tragic notes, however towards the end you feel like disasters, catastrophies are part of life like happiness and all these optimistic things we all hope for. It is also great epistrophy to Komeda's own tragic end...
