Trio +2 (Not Two, 2011)

The Fonda/Stevens Trio has been performing together for 23 years. Pianist Michael Jefry Stevens, bassist Joe Fonda and drummer Harvey Sorgen first began playing together in 1988 as part of the critically acclaimed "Mosaic Sextet" which was a NYC based ensemble that featured Dave Douglas on trumpet, Mark Feldman on violin and Michael Rabinowitz on bassoon. The Mosaic Sextet disbanded in 2000 and in 2002 the Fonda/Stevens Group was formed. The Fonda/Stevens Trio +2 Project features the long-standing trio performing together with 2 of Poland's most prominent saxophonists and composers: Ireneusz Wojtczak and Maciej Obara. The debut CD of this quintet project was released in November 2011 on the Polish label Nottwo. The group performs original music by all members of the quintet and creates a rich blending of the varied cultural influences of these talented musicians.
