Big Beat Jazz (2011)
Adam Wendt's best years were in 80ties last century when he played on his saxophone in bands like Young Power and, most of all, Walk Away. This second band was the most important band in those times in Polish Jazz and also well in 90ties, recognized and concerting extensively not only in Poland but also abroad. Reputation he gathered in that period allows him even to persuade excellent musicians to take part in his projects. Pianist Przemysław Raminiak is a rising star on Polish jazz scene who plays in Polish top cool jazz trio called RGG (check their latest, very good album titled "One") while drummer Marcin Jahr is much-appraised sideman playing for example in projects of Polish top mainstream trumpeter Piotr Wojtasik ("Lonely Town"). The same may be said about guests: Artur Jurek playing on keyboards, Tomasz Grabowy on bass and Krzysztof Paul on guitar whose last CD "Second Face" made good impression on me. In purely musical terms Adam Wendt and his band seem to follow on this specific CD a path taken by such saxophonists as David Sanborn or Kenny Garrett. Starting with straight-ahead jazz with years passing they moved closer and closer to smooth jazz stylistics with all its virtuosity and accessibility so appreciated by popular audience.
